Selecting the right Learning Management System - What are the options?
Organisations are discovering online Learning Management Systems (LMSs) as a good way to reduce staff turnover, reduce costs associated with instructor led training (ILT) and provide staff with a centralised learning content solution giving employees the freedom to constantly access learning wherever they are within the organisation. It also makes it very easy for the organisation to monitor staff development, keep track of professional qualifications and manage other processes which can be integrated with the LMS such as succession planning, compensation management, performance management, retention management and recruitment. A fully integrated system is sometimes referred to as Integrated Talent Management System (ITMS). Most recently many formerly LMS vendors have reinvented themselves and are offering new ITMS solutions.
According to some analysts there are currently more than 100 learning management solutions on the market. Choosing the right one for your organisation is becoming increasingly difficult.
This article aims to provide a simple comparison between the most widely used solutions and give ideas of what needs to be considered when choosing a system for your organisation.
